District 6 Special Projects

Engaged residents, neighborhood associations, and businesses move our community forward. It is what drives District 6. Commissioner Bakari F. Burns' vision includes philanthropy to help students and seniors. Through projects like the FORE! Children Celebrity Golf Tournament we are able to fund efforts in the community by providing support for several community-based programs: scholarships for current and future college students, backpacks and school supplies for our younger students, and resources to further assist seniors.

In previous years, we awarded $14,000 in scholarships to students from the District and $8,000 to the Orlando My Brothers Keeper Program (MBK) thanks to our generous donors. The District 6 office is partnering with MBK to address mental health matters, social issues and fighting amongst students at Carver Middle School in District 6.

The fundraising program is managed through the Orlando Community Youth Trust, a non-profit that supports the mission of the City of Orlando’s Families, Parks and Recreation Department.
